Increasing numbers of blacks in Canadian politics

The other guest of honor at the gala, the Liberal MP for London West Ariel Kayabaga, recalled the importance of this Black History Month. According to her, he “paved the way and inspired black Canadians in politics”.

It is thanks to that courage and persistence that everyone inspires, she says, that she had the strength to run in the 2018 local elections in London, Ontario. For the last election on September 20, 2021, she was recruited by the Liberal Party.

Housing at the center of concern

“I’ve always been a champion of affordable housing and justice for all,” says Arielle Kayabaga. In this dynamic, the deputy recently announced two new public financings.

A $50 million federal grant will support various Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation investments “to support and address the inequalities faced by black people in Canada.”

And Ottawa is donating $10 million to the BlackNorth initiative in partnership with Toronto’s Habitat For Humanity. This investment will “provide approximately 200 affordable housing units for black families over the next four years,” says Arielle Kayabaga.
