The Trois-Rivières Lions, frequently frustrated by goaltender Brandon Bussi, lost 5-2 to the Maine Mariners at Cross Insurance Arena on Sunday.
This is the first regular-time defeat for head coach Éric Bélanger’s side in their three previous games in 2022-2023.
In the day’s game, Bussi stopped 38 of 40 shots for farm club Montreal Canadiens in the ECHL.
The 24-year-old masked man signed his second win of the season after making 37 saves against the Lions in an overtime win on Friday.
Bussi was thwarted by pitches from Cameron Hillis and Anthony Beauregard. The first touched in the last second of the second period, while the second scored in the third period with less than two minutes left and the game was already out of reach.
In front of the Trois-Rivières club’s goal, Philippe Desrosiers made 26 saves. He gave way to Cameron Askew, Nick Jermain and Patrick Shea.
Jermain and Fedor Gordeev completed the goal in an empty net.
The Lions will be back in action this Wednesday when the Worcester Railers will be at the Colisée Vidéotron.
