World Sight Day, held on October 12, is an international day of awareness coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2023 /CNW/ – To raise awareness of the importance of eye health, the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (SCO), the recognized national authority for eye and vision care in Canada, has launched a national photography competition: the See the Possibilities Campaign “From a Uniquely Canadian Perspective” Photo Contest.

Through the #LoveYourEyes initiative, the COS encourages individuals, families and communities to focus on eye health. Recognizing the beauty and wonder we can admire through healthy vision, the SCO invites Canadians to capture the essence of their unique experiences in Canada. Photos can depict scenic landscapes, cultural experiences or iconic Canadian moments. We encourage participants to submit their photos by the October 3, 2023 deadline.

“World Sight Day reminds us of the importance of maintaining good eye health while promoting education and awareness about the four major eye diseases and their associated risk factors,” says Dr. Phil Hooper, President of the Society’s Division of Canadian Ophthalmology. Once the photo submission period closes, voting will be open to the general public from October 4th to 19th, 2023. Canadians will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite photo that best embodies the spirit of Canada. In addition to the winning photo selected by popular vote, the SCO jury will also select another winning photo. The two winners will receive a $300 Amazon gift card.

The competition, running from September 16 to October 3, 2023, invites Canadians to capture the essence of their unique experiences in Canada.
