First wireless carrier in Canada to offer coast-to-coast satellite coverage

Satellite coverage will ensure public safety and expand our service offering over time

TORONTO, April 26, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Rogers Communications Inc. announced today that it is partnering with Lynk Global to test and implement satellite phone connectivity across the country to ensure people here Have access to a wireless connection no matter where you are.

In 2024, Rogers will begin expanding satellite phone coverage to Canada’s most remote areas and rural areas not served by any wireless network. Initially offering only text messaging, the service will expand to include voice and data over time, allowing any Canadian to reach 911 with a 4G and 5G compatible smartphone.

Today’s announcement follows the company’s investment to provide Canadians with the largest wireless 5G network, serving more than 2,000 communities. Rogers is committed to improving public safety through its investments in the national network.
