Response to Ottawa Sanctions | Moscow bans 200 Canadian officials from entering its territory

(Moscow) Russia announced on Friday that it would ban 200 Canadians, including Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and CIBC Bank President Victor Dodig, from entering its territory in response to similar Canadian sanctions against Russian figures.

This is a decision made in response to “personal sanctions against Russian officials,” Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement, condemning the “russophobic” policies of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s regime.

The list includes Conservative Party spokeswoman Sarah Fischer, Telesat Canada CEO Daniel Goldberg, Canadian Electoral Commission President Stephane Perrault, and several Canadian figures of Ukrainian descent.

Since the Russian offensive in Ukraine began on February 24, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1,400 individuals and entities located in or originating from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine.

Russia hit back with similar sanctions each time.
