Classical music is always full of projects and initiatives thanks to the imagination of our artists. Here’s the top classical music news for Quebec this week.

Orchester symphonique de Montréal: Let’s go on tour!

The Montreal Symphony Orchestra flew yesterday for a first European tour with his musical director, Rafael Payare, for concerts at five venues. They play in Zagreb (Croatia), in Budapest (Hungary), twice in Vienna (Austria) and in London. From October 21st to 28th, the 97 musicians will be accompanied by three internationally renowned soloists, the pianists Viking Olafsson and Bruce LiuWinner of the OSM Competition 2012 and the International Chopin Piano Competition 2021, as well as the violinist Augustine Hadelich. Four different programs will be presented during the tour, which requires a lot of preparation and logistical effort, as the picture above shows.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin: a mural in Ahuntsic-Cartierville

Yannick Nezet-Seguin now has a mural in the neighborhood where he grew up, Ahuntsic-Cartierville, which was dedicated on October 15. This is the artist’s work MC Baldassariand a collaboration between theMetropolitan Orchestrathe community of Ahuntsic-Cartierville and the organization mu, specializes in murals, as part of a series entitled “Montreal Cultural Builders”. The mural is located at 10421 Berri Street, Montreal.

Jordi Savall on Canadian Mini Tour

emmen Jordy Savall returns to Canada this fall for three concerts, this time with his viol consort ensemble Hesperion XXI. They will be in Montreal (November 7th), Quebec City (November 6th) and Ottawa (November 8th) with a European program entitled ” Fantasias, Battles and Dances – The Golden Age of Consort Music (1500-1750) », a collection of works by 15 major Renaissance and Baroque composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, John Dowland, Henry Purcell and many others.

Autour de la flute launches “MusicAtHome”

the organism around the flute just released a series of video capsules entitled “MusicAtHome“ (musicathome.tv), an initiative of the flautists Mika Putterman and Alex Schürmer. These are 8 varied capsules, ranging from Baroque to Contemporary, and feature the flute (including a Japanese flute, a double bass flute, and both Baroque and Classical flutes). This first season features 18 musicians playing Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, Jazz and Japanese music on historical and modern instruments. DETAILS

The transformation show returns to Montreal

The show transfigurationcreated by the harpist Valerie Milot and the cellist Stephane Tetreault, will be back in Montreal in November as part of a tour the two musicians started in September. The Montreal performance is on November 10th at the Théâtre Maisonneuve. I recommend this multimedia concert which I had the pleasure of attending when it premiered at Bourgie Hall in May. Further performances are planned in Trois-Rivières, Saguenay, Repentigny, Pointe-aux-Trembles and Sherbrooke. DETAILS AND TICKETS
