Listenbourg, that fictional country that made a splash on the internet

French netizen Gaspardooo, self-proclaimed president of this fake North Atlantic territory, created the country from scratch to mock Americans and their knowledge of geography.

I’m sure Americans don’t even know the name of this countryhe wrote on Twitter this week in a post accompanied by a manipulated map of the European Union.

The joke quickly went viral. As of Friday, Gaspardoo’s tweet was shared more than 11,000 times on the platform and mentioned more than 100,000 times I like.

Hoerburg, land of history

In just a few days, Listenbourg fans have come up with a real folklore for their favorite country.

According to information circulating on the Internet, the invented territory has about 59 million people, and its motto is Freedom, honor, splendor. It has its own flag as well as a national anthem officially.

Several organizations and companies have contributed to the Internet phenomenon.

The number of Olympic delegations for #Paris2024 increases from 206 to 207 with the arrival of Listenbourgjoked the official report on the Paris Olympics.

For its part, the airline Ryanair has announced a brand new connection with the fake European country, while Prime Vidéo France promises a documentary with the title Listenbourg, land of historyscheduled for February.

The birth of a first political formation – the Listenbourg Socialist Party – was also greeted with humor by Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the French Socialist Party. What a joy to see the socialist family growing every dayhe wrote on Twitter.
