An “X” gender marker on your health insurance card | TO UPDATE

Updated May 3, 2024: In March, the Quebec government finally decided to allow people who identify as neither male nor female to choose the X on their health insurance card and driver’s license. The news was received as a relief to non-binary people who had been asking about it for a long time. The gender marker We are currently working to finalize the implementation of this decision.

The gender identifier “X” has been allowed in the Canadian passport since 2019, but in Quebec it is still not possible to have it on the health insurance card.
