It's over for Blake Wheeler

New York Rangers veteran Blake Wheeler was injured in Thursday's game against the Montreal Canadiens and will miss the remainder of the season as his name was placed on the long-term injured list.

According to various sources, including Sportsnet hockey expert Elliotte Friedman, the forward's return to the playoffs seems unlikely unless the Blueshirts have a very long playoff run.

During the first period of the duel at Madison Square Garden, the former Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets needed help getting off the ice after making contact with Habs defenseman Jayden Struble. During the scene, his right leg became twisted and he could no longer stand firmly on his skates.

Wheeler has nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 54 games this year, his first in a New York jersey. He signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract last summer, making him eligible for full free agency on July 1.
