Hudson’s Bay will open 25 Zellers stores, including five in Quebec

(Toronto) The Hudson’s Bay Company on Wednesday unveiled the list of planned locations for its first 25 Zellers stores at various Hudson’s Bay stores across Canada.

Five of these locations are in Quebec: at the Galeries d’Anjou in East Montreal, at Place Rosemère on Montreal’s North Shore, at the Galeries de la Capitale in Quebec City and on Promenades Gatineau, in Outaouais and in the Carrefour de l ‘Estrie, in Sherbrooke.

Of the nine locations selected for Ontario, two are in Ottawa: the downtown Rideau Center and the Saint-Laurent Shopping Centre.

Only two sites were selected in the four Atlantic provinces, in Halifax and Sydney.

Last August, the Hudson’s Bay Company announced it would be reviving its Zellers brand, a decade after the discount chain closed most of its stores in Canada. It aims to provide interior decoration items, toys, baby items, clothing and accessories for pets.

In addition to opening stores, Zellers will launch a new e-commerce website.

Zellers was founded in 1931 and acquired by the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1978.

In 2011, the Hudson’s Bay Company announced its intention to sell the majority of its remaining Zellers leases to American company Target, closing most stores by 2013, but Target’s continued adventure in Canada was a fiasco.
