Air Canada Pilots Association merges with ALPA

(Mississauga) The Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) has said it has reached tentative agreement on a possible merger with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the world’s largest union of airline pilots.

In a statement released Tuesday, the two associations say the deal will be put to a vote by Air Canada pilots and ALPA’s Executive Council and Board of Directors.

Both groups say the agreement brings them closer to the common goal of advancing the piloting profession and aviation safety in Canada and the United States. They say they are confident that if they work in unity, they will be stronger together.

The Air Canada Pilots Association, based in the Toronto area, says it represents more than 4,500 members who fly passengers and cargo on Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge aircraft, with pilot bases in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver .

The Air Line Pilots Association claims to represent more than 67,000 pilots on 39 airlines in the United States and Canada.
