Accident prevention with agricultural vehicles: a crucial issue

Quebec is hosting Farm Health and Safety Week from March 12-18, 2023. Led by the Union of Agricultural Producers (UPA), it will be held on the subject of -Safety with agricultural vehicles: difficult not to be taken lightly. With more than 50 agricultural vehicle accidents recorded in Quebec since 2018, this is undoubtedly a major concern.

Inform and raise awareness

The importance of prevention when using motorized equipment in the yard no longer needs to be proven. Within the framework of the week, the UPA therefore aims to inform and raise awareness among agricultural producers about the measures to be taken in the performance of their daily tasks to ensure their own safety and that of their workers.

Performing tasks that require operating motorized vehicles, regardless of their size, obviously requires specific knowledge and skills. In addition, the user of an agricultural vehicle must ensure that the device-specific standards and regulations are complied with. Finally, it is important that workers are aware of the risks involved in using such equipment and the means of avoiding injury.

For example, as part of its annual symposium on the same topic, held last February, the UPA presented conferences on the following topics in particular:

The safe operation of agricultural vehicles;

operator training;

– Legislation on craft equipment;

safety on the streets.

During the week, these topics are also covered throughout the year. Are you concerned about agricultural safety? -Contact your regional UPA association or visit upa.qc.ca for more information!
