A successful Freestyle Skiing Canada Cup at Lac-Beauport

After hosting the Freestyle Skiing World Cup on January 19, the Le Relais ski center in Lac-Beauport hosted the Canada Cup on Saturday.

It was an opportunity for Canadian athletes to compete while earning points and training for future World Cups.

“The entire Canadian team is still here,” said Freestyle Canada Cup organizer Caroline Dubreuil. We have the American team that sent us their development team. But measuring yourself against the best is very motivating for her.”

Charlie Fontaine was also in the competition. She ended up at the foot of the podium in fourth place.

“Seriously, it’s really fun,” she said. I didn’t expect to do such a big competition, two in a row and more. No, it’s really different than what I’ve done before. It used to be more regional or in the United States, but almost not with the whole planet.

Marion Thénault took first place, an increasingly usual result for her but one that comes with some pressure.

“I think it looks fantastic from the outside,” she shares. It really looks gorgeous. For my part, I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved. I find it really difficult to progress so quickly in my development.

He devotes about 70% of his time to mental preparation.

“I want to be the best in the world,” continues the leader of the Canadian Championship and World Cup rankings. I really have to concentrate, I have to mind my business, then I have to be in a good mood every weekend. So it’s a lot of work, but at the same time it’s what I do, I love doing it and then I want to do it as well as possible.”

Marion Thénault will travel to Deer Valley for Stage 4 of the World Cup on Sunday.
