World football’s highest governing body, FIFA, has decided to change its kit regulations. Indeed, Article 6.2.5 now states that “ Each team is encouraged to have an alternate second kit in a different color or colors than both the home and away kits. »

This update therefore risks pushing kit manufacturers to consider creating a third kit. We explain why.

Why should national teams have a third kit?

The reason is ultimately very simple. This rule update aims to offer nations an alternative outfit that avoids confusion and embarrassment regarding the color of the kits. For example, Denmark were able to avoid wearing a red or white jersey during their away game against Croatia in the Nations League thanks to their new third kit. Two nations whose main colors are red and white.
