From its planned opening in early 2024, the new center will ship 20 million items to local customers annually. It will primarily serve Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.

The company estimates that this new 44,000 square meter building will be able to store 500,000 items. About 225 employees will be hired to work in this new center, in addition to other jobs that will be created in the construction and engineering sectors.

Walmart promises to equip its new center with “state-of-the-art logistics technology that, thanks to innovative tools, will ensure productivity while reducing physical exertion”.

“The innovative technology will speed up order processing. The state-of-the-art operating system will help employees store, pick and sort items, using intelligent and flexible storage capabilities to process a large volume and variety of items,” the company said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Walmart will also spend $330 million this year to renovate 80 stores, including 17 in Quebec. The company operates 71 offices and employs more than 14,500 people in Quebec.
