TORONTO – Unifor said Monday it has reached a tentative agreement with Stellantis, ending a brief strike at the automaker, while it just reached its third and final agreement with a “Big Three” Detroit automaker.

More than 8,200 workers represented by Unifor have walked off their jobs at Stellantis plants in Canada after the two sides failed to reach an agreement before Sunday’s deadline. However, the union and the company continued to negotiate throughout the night.

The union said that while the strike was short-lived, it was an “important act of solidarity and determination”.

“This has demonstrated the strength of our union and enabled your negotiating team to reach a tentative agreement that addresses both the key economic demands set out in the union’s standard agreement and our specific demands at Stellantis,” it said in a joint statement from Unifor National President Lana Payne and Stellantis Prime Negotiations Chairman James Stewart and Stellantis Deputy Vice President of Principal Negotiations Vito Beato.

The deal with the automaker of brands including Fiat and Jeep comes after Unifor struck previous deals with Ford Motor and General Motors. A strike by Unifor members at GM also lasted less than a day.

Mark Stewart, COO of Stellantis North America, said he is proud of the negotiating teams and grateful for their commitment.

“Once ratified, this agreement will reward our 8,000 represented employees and protect the long-term health of our Canadian operations,” he stressed.

The tentative agreement covers workers at assembly plants in Windsor, Ontario and Brampton, Ontario, a molding plant in Toronto and parts distribution centers in Mississauga, Ontario and Red Deer, Alberta.

Unifor demanded details from Stellantis about its electric vehicle plans for its Canadian factories and tried to get the automaker to agree to the same basic economic terms the union reached with Ford and GM.

The union said Monday that the agreement with Stellantis follows the standard agreement and increases base hourly wages for production workers by nearly 20% and for tradespeople by 25% over the life of the agreement. Three years.

In addition, the model agreement includes expansions to all pension plans, two new additional paid leaves of absence and other improvements.

In the U.S., Stellantis has seen an escalation in strikes by members of the United Auto Workers at its factories over the past six weeks, but on Saturday the company reached a tentative agreement with the union
