The Canada Border Services Agency said it helped place two Montreal companies on a US sanctions list they say have ties to the Russian military.

The US Department of Commerce last month added cPUNTO and Electronic Network to its list of companies subject to export controls.

The two companies, based in the Montréal district of Saint-Laurent, describe themselves online as distributors of electronic components.

US export controls now prohibit them from exporting almost anything made in the US, including intellectual property.

Canada’s Border Patrol says it is working closely with the US government to restrict Russia’s access to products and technology needed for its war in Ukraine.

Neither cPUNTO nor Electronic Network have responded to a request for comment.
