The hopeful Oliver Kapanen takes the next step

Montreal Canadiens prospect Oliver Kapanen signed a two-year contract with Timra of the Swedish League (SHL) on Thursday.

Kapanen’s father Kimmo is also the general director of this training.

The 20-year-old center spent the last two seasons with KalPa Kuopio in his home country of Finland.

Kapanen, a second-round pick by the Habs in the 2021 draft, experienced some growth last season, leading KalPa coach Petri Karjalainen to recently say that “he was in the final stages of the season and during the playoffs was the best player in the world.” League.

Known for his efficiency on both ends of the ice, Kapanen posted a record 14 goals and 20 assists in 51 Liiga games in 2023-2024.

Kapanen, Sami’s nephew who has played 831 games in the NHL, will represent Finland at the Ice Hockey World Championships, which begin this week in the Czech Republic.

He could sign his entry-level contract with the Canadiens in the near future and will likely participate in the team’s next training camp.
