The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad issued a press release on Sunday, March 10, 2024, to return to the painful incident of March 3, 2024, which resulted in the death of the Tunisian citizen Marwane Chouk during an armed attack led by him Intervention led two Canadian police officers in the city of Oakville (Province of Ontario).
The Ministry notes that its services continue to monitor this issue closely, in coordination with its two diplomatic and consular missions in Canada, on the one hand, and the Canadian Embassy in Tunisia, on the other.
The Ministry and its two missions are maintaining contacts with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, the authorities of the Province of Ontario and the police of the above-mentioned city in order to quickly ascertain all the circumstances and facts related to this incident and to take administrative measures and criminal liability, quickly and without delay , especially since preliminary, unconfirmed information suggests that the deceased did not in any way pose a danger that would justify being the target of seven shots fired by two police officers, says the press release from the Tunisian MAE.
To this end, the Ministry calls on the Canadian authorities to work as quickly as necessary, within the framework of respect for human rights and the law, to identify those responsible for this dramatic incident.
The Ministry also reiterates its determination to continue working to uncover the truth and defend the rights of the deceased. It should also be noted that the procedures for the repatriation of the remains are currently being finalized.
