The National Congress brings together 171 delegates elected from all parts of the country to deliberate on community affairs and make recommendations to the National Bahá’í Spiritual Assembly of Canada, the national governing council of the Bahá’í community.
One of the main functions of the National Congress is to allow the assembled delegates to vote for the nine members who will serve in the National Assembly for the coming year.
The Bahá’í electoral process grants each delegate absolute freedom to vote in confidence for persons of his choice among all adults of the national community. It is a sacred and solemn democratic process that takes place without nominations or campaigning.
The following were elected members of the National Spiritual Assembly for the coming year: Mehran Anvari, Alex Arjomand, Jordan Bighorn, Zelalem Bimrew Kasse, Hoda Farahmandpour, Gerald Filson, Judy Filson, Ciprian Jauca and Karen McKye.
