The Canadiens' defensive system

After a busy weekend in the National Hockey League, Stéphane Waite comments on a variety of topics on Mario Langlois' microphone at Sports Amateurs.

In their last two games, the Montreal Canadiens have allowed 11 goals against the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals.

Waite doesn't like the way the Habs defenders face their opponents. In particular, he doesn't like the man-on-man system recommended by the team.

“I don't like… I don't like this Canadian way of playing. It’s been two years… it’s not working.”

He also points out that when trying to block shots, players focus on the puck and don't pay attention to what's happening around them.

The two games took place outdoors

“I didn’t say to myself, I’m going to watch these two games. I was no longer interested because they were outside. For me there are too many (away games), but it's still fun for the local markets. I experienced it three times, twice with the Canadian.
