The Athletic predicts a catastrophe scenario for CH in the draft

The NHL draft lottery drawing took place last night.

Now that we officially know the rankings of all the teams that didn’t participate in the playoffs, it’s time to play the prediction game for the coming weeks leading up to the draft, which will take place on June 28th in Las Vegas.

The site is like every year The athlete brought his journalists together to create a special sample draft. Each journalist momentarily becomes the CEO of the team they cover, trying to make the best possible decision during a mock draft.

In this case it is Arpon Basu who inherited the work of Kent Hughesthe one who has the fifth overall pick in the draft.

This is how the simulation went.

  • 1. SAN JOSE Macklin Celebrini – VS (NCAA)
  • 2. CHICAGO – Ivan Demidov – ADVERTISEMENT. (MHL)
  • 3. ANAHEIM Artyom Levshunov -DD (NCAA)
  • 4. COLUMBUS Cayden Lindstrom VS (WHL)

According to most observers, the player CH wants at this rank is the big center Cayden Lindstrom. Unfortunately, the Columbus Blue Jackets took the win away from the Canadian in this simulation by selecting him in fourth place just before.

Basu was therefore faced with a situation where Kent Hughes You could definitely face the question in the draft: What should you do with the pick if you’re the big player? (Demidov/Lindstrom) is no longer available?

He had a few options: Sign the best striker available, even if he was lower on the lists / Select the best defenseman available despite the glut of young prospects on the blue line / Move backwards in the draft by maximizing the value of the pick.

The reporter went with the third option, trading the fifth overall pick for the Calgary Flames’ first-round pick (9th overall) in addition to the Vancouver Canucks’ first-round pick (between 26th and 32nd depending on the Canucks’ playoff path).

  • 5.CALGARY (via Montreal)Zeev Buium -CEO (NCAA)
  • 6.UTAH- Anton Silayev -CEO (KHL)
  • 7. OTTAWA – Zayne Parekh -DD (OH)
  • 8. SEATTLE Sam Dickinson -CEO (OH)
  • 9. MONTREAL (via Calgary) – Tij Iginla – VS (WHL)

In the ninth row it is up to the attacker Tij Iginla that he has set himself a goal that is particularly loved by the team management, which has met with him several times this season.

  • 10. NEW JERSEY Berkly Catton – VS (WHL)
  • 11. Buffalo Cole Eiserman – AG (USHL)
  • 12. PHILADELPHIA – Carter Yakemchuk -DD (WHL)
  • 13. MINNESOTA Adam Jiricek -DD (Czech Republic)
  • 14. SAN JOSE Beckett Sennecke – ADVERTISEMENT. (OH)
  • 15. DETROIT – Konsta Helenius – VS (SM Liiga)

The journalist’s stated goal was to combine the Canucks’ previously acquired first-round pick with the Jets’ first-round pick he already owned to obtain a pick between 12 and 15 to select the forward Beckett Sennecke which the CH particularly desires. Unfortunately, the Flyers’ temporary GMs (12.),Wild (13.) and sharks (14.) Don’t bite and he was left empty-handed, with two late first-round picks in his hands.

This would therefore potentially be the worst possible scenario Kent Hughes and the Canadian next June. However, this is a scenario that could prove extremely realistic.

Let’s see how the actual draft turns out in a few weeks.
