“I sincerely think that Juraj Slafkovsky’s development was botched this year.”
This was presented by our employee Antoine Roussel on Tuesday in the “Le Show” segment of the “JiC” program on TVA Sports.
According to the former agitator, the Slovak shouldn’t have spent the whole season in Montreal. He believes general manager Kent Hughes’ decision hurt Slafkovsky’s development.
“Did we really have to keep him in Montreal? He could have started the season with the Canadians and then gone to the World Junior Championships. After that he could have been relegated to the youth ranks or returned to Europe and continued playing in an interesting league, but not necessarily the National League.
“Since he was first choice overall, you had no choice but to keep him,” host Jean-Charles Lajoie replied.
Roussel and Éric Fichaud, who are also present on the set, do not share this opinion. They answered in unison, “You always have a choice.”
“I also think it would have helped him,” Fichaud added.
Slafkovsky had 10 points in 39 games before suffering a knee injury in mid-January that ended his first season on the Bettman Tour.
