A Canadian businessman was murdered in Egypt on Tuesday.
According to a statement published by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the victim was a permanent resident of Egypt.
“He was the victim of a criminal shooting in Alexandria,” the agency wrote the day after the accident. “Legal action has been taken and a search team has been formed to uncover the circumstances of the incident.”
According to Global News, Global Affairs Canada said consular officials were in contact with local authorities to provide consular assistance to the victim’s relatives.
“Global Affairs Canada is aware of the death of a Canadian citizen in Egypt and we extend our deepest condolences to the family. Consular officers are in contact with local authorities and are available to provide consular assistance to the family. Due to confidentiality rules, no further information can be disclosed,” Global Affairs Canada spokesperson James Emmanuel Wanki commented via email on Thursday.
