Jordan Romano of the Toronto Blue Jays is the recipient of the 2022 season’s Tip-O’Neill Trophy, a Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame honor that recognizes a baseball player in the country who has excelled on the field.
The 29-year-old pitcher succeeds teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who was considered by the organization because of his Montreal heritage and was again a finalist, as the winner of the award.
“Jordan Romano had one of the best seasons by a Canadian assist in MLB, and the fact that he did it with the Blue Jays, his home team, made it even more special,” Jeremy Diamond, chief executive officer, said in a press release from the Hall’s directors of Fame.
The Ontarian had a notable season with 36 saves, which is the third-highest total in the American League. Romano also had a 2.11 ERA and went 5-4.
In 2022, the right-hander was invited to the All-Star Game for the first time and made a good impression by knocking out all three batters he faced.
