Raytheon Technologies: Pratt & Whitney Canada announces full maintenance and service solution for the PT6E-66XT engine powering the TBM 960 aircraft

Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 26, 2022 Pratt & Whitney Canada, a subsidiary of Pratt & Whitney, today announced its Guaranteed Service Program, a unique maintenance and service solution for its PT6E-66XT engine, selected by Ursprung in April to power its new 960 TBM aircraft.

“As the new PT6 E-Series engine family heralded a new era in general aviation, our Guaranteed Service Program (GSP) for the PT6E-66XT engine sets a new standard for engine maintenance and safety for TBM 960 owners,” said Nicholas Kanellias, Vice President, General Aviation, Pratt & Whitney Canada. “PSG goes well beyond routine maintenance coverage, it also includes unplanned events; It uses operating performance and engine health data to provide proactive and personalized support and improve the service experience. The PSG is a powerful tool that promotes aircraft availability and reliability, and helps with rapid return to service if a problem arises. »

The maintenance and service solution has been developed and customized to meet the needs of TBM 960 owners. A first for this type of program, the PSG covers environmental damage to engine components caused by erosion, corrosion and sulfidation. Parts that require replacement due to normal wear and tear discovered during unscheduled engine removal are also covered. Events such as foreign object damage, lightning/propeller strikes or hard landings are usually covered by insurance companies. However, incidental/consequential damages found upon inspection are the responsibility of the owner. PSG takes the traditional PT6A concept of “Owner Safety” to a new level by covering all “Interval” detections. PSG is also creating a simplified ownership model with advice and personalized service from Pratt & Whitney Canada’s support team. It includes a digital connection between the crew and the aircraft, powering a range of proactive services that enable preventative maintenance.

“Our proactive dedicated PT6E-66XT engine service team will work around the clock to review overall engine health and convert potential Airplane Ground (AAS) situations into planned events,” Kanellias said. “The ultimate goal is to achieve the high level of aircraft availability that TBM 960 owners have come to expect. By combining PSG coverage, engine data and proactive services, we have developed a tool that will enable us to achieve this result. Beyond we manage with the maintenance manager the technical support and logistics of the components, which frees the owner/operator of the aircraft to focus on the flights. »

Digital connectivity supports proactive maintenance and optimal performance

The intelligence behind the control system uses data to deliver precise and consistent engine performance for every flight, regardless of altitude and temperature. Other benefits include increased engine power during take-off and climb (+45 SHP mechanical hp) and increased thermodynamic performance (up to 4% under international standard atmospheric conditions).

The PT6E-66XT is also digitally connected via its data acquisition and transmission unit, allowing full engine data to be accessed in-flight on various platforms, including mobile devices. As a result, all relevant information is available to the operator at the touch of a button, which enables predictive engine and operating system analysis and proactive maintenance planning.

Once the aircraft is on the ground, engine flight data can be downloaded wirelessly, providing operators and maintenance personnel with information on engine performance and condition. Based on this data, the Proactive Services team works with the customer’s maintenance manager to optimize maintenance scheduling and ensure the TBM 960 is ready to fly when needed.

Enriched ownership experience and sustainable engine life cycle

The improved design and digital capabilities of the PT6E-66XT engine increase aircraft availability. Scheduled maintenance intervals have increased, including the time between overhauls, which has increased from 3,500 to 5,000 hours. The electronic system control removes material from the engine, resulting in a 40% reduction in scheduled maintenance.
