Quebec is introducing rapid training to train 3,000 to 5,000 beneficiaries

MONTREAL – Quebec is launching a short-term training program to recruit and train new caregivers. The aim is to attract 3,000 to 5,000 new participants.

This was announced by Health Minister Christian Dubé on Tuesday morning, together with Education Minister Bernard Drainville and Minister for Senior Citizens and Health Minister Sonia Bélanger.

To attract applicants, they are offered a $12,000 stipend.

This short-term vocational training extends over three months or 375 hours.

Such is the need for caregivers that Quebec is struggling to get its retirement homes up and running due to a shortage of workers.

Students receive an $8,000 scholarship and a $4,000 bonus upon graduation. In addition, graduates are hired upon admission, thus securing employment. In addition, there is the possibility of working as an assistant in a residential and nursing home parallel to the training.

The Minister of Education indicated that the training will be available in all regions of Quebec.
