Health Canada and Quaker Canada are currently recalling granola bars and Croque Nature cereal due to possible salmonella contamination.

This follows a recall that the Quaker Oats Company initiated in the USA on January 11th.

Please note that this measure is a preventative measure in Canada. To date, no cases of illness have been reported associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumers who have purchased these products are asked to throw them away or return them to where they were purchased. A person who becomes ill after consuming any of the products should contact their doctor.

Food contaminated with bacteria Salmonella They don't necessarily have any visible changes or a suspicious smell, but they can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems can get serious and sometimes fatal infections.

In healthy people, salmonellosis can manifest itself with short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Salmonellosis can also cause long-term complications, including severe arthritis. (NP)
