The men’s race saw South Africa’s Aaron Royle come out first after the 2K swim, ahead of a trio of Sam Laidlow (FRA), Ben Kanute (USA) and Daniel Baekkegard (DAN). Magnus Ditlev (DAN) was 1’10 behind, with Lionel Sanders (CAN) just ahead of Sam Long (USA) at 2’37.
Kanute, Laidlow and Royle started the 80km loop as leaders. At the end of the first round, Sam Laidlow led the debates in front of a ‘platoon’ of 13 units. The Frenchman, who was soon joined by Angert (GER), increased at the end of 2e round. Sam Long started his comeback 1’56 from the leaders. At half-time the two leaders were 1’17 ahead of their nearest pursuers, with Long, Ditlev and Sanders now pointing to 1’37. 10 km further Long had joined the pack and even took the wheel in 3rd geare
Position. Angert pushed the pace at the front and left Laidlow after 30 seconds. On the last lap of the bike, Long came back to the Frenchman, accompanied by Ditlev and Chartier, the trio pointing to 1’05 from Angert.
Exiting T2, the first three men were standing in less than a minute. Chartier would give it his all in the last 18km of walking, taking control with 6km to go and finally winning in 3h17:16, 42 seconds ahead of Magnus Ditelv and Sam Long, who will have paid for his efforts on the bike in the final kilometers Foot. Sam Laidlow is 4th againe, after standing on the podium at the inaugural event in Canada. Clément Mignon finishes 19 for his parte of the day.

For girls Lucy Charles Barclay (UK) and Taylor Knibb (USA) were the leading swimmers and cyclists. Out of the water, the two girls would then cycle side by side. But Lucy Charles lost her personal Ravita and saw how her electronic derailleur performed. Knibb then went ahead, 1’51 ahead of the Brit at half-time. At 1’12 there was a group consisting of Holly Lawrence (GB), Paula Findlay (CAN), Flora Duffy (BER) and Lisa Norden (SUE).
After T2, Knibb started the 5 walking laps in the lead, 3’42 ahead of Charles-Barclay, 6’07 ahead of Findlay, Duffy, Lawrence, North and 6’52 ahead of Gentle! But the latter would make an impressive comeback on foot to take the lead at 16km and never let go. After winning the opening event in Canada, the Australian completed the double in 3h37:17 ahead of Taylor Knibb in 1:15, Lucy Charles Barclay and Holly Lawrence.
The French will not have been at the party. Marjolaine Pierre had to retire after a sore foot and Manon Genêt was caught off the first one on a day without her bike and was therefore eliminated.
