Almost all Quebecers (95%) want a four-day week, but the majority would like to work no more than 36 hours (67%).
At least that’s the conclusion of a survey published on Tuesday by the job search platform Talent.com.
In particular, we learn that the 4-day work week remains one of the most requested benefits by workers in Quebec (60%), as well as flexibility in working hours (60%) and job benefits. 50%).
Quebec is also the only province where the four-day work week and working-time flexibility featured equally in the list of proposed benefits.
36% of Quebec respondents believe that the four-day week is a logical progression after the introduction of hybrid work.
Better work-life balance (48%), improved mental health and burnout prevention (19%), and reduced stress (8%) are the top motivators for Quebec employees who want to implement this concept.
“Successful pilot programs for a four-day work week have been implemented in several countries, resulting in improved productivity. Quebecers are also showing increasing interest in the concept, but are raising many concerns,” said Yannick Paradis, Sales Director at Talent.com.
In fact, seven in 10 Quebecers (72%) said they were concerned about implementing such a measure. 39% fear being paid less and 29% fear working longer.
When it comes to accepting a pay cut in exchange for a shorter work week, half of Quebecers say they are in favor. Among them, 4 out of 10 would even be willing to accept a discount of up to 10%. Quebec is also the only province in Canada where respondents are most likely to accept a pay cut compared to the rest of Canada.
The survey was conducted between March 30 and April 6, 2023 among 1,003 active Canadians.
