Former Toronto Raptors pilot Nick Nurse has reportedly landed the job as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.
This is what the ESPN network said on Monday.
The Raptors decided to part ways with Nurse a little over a month ago. The 55-year-old spent a decade with the Toronto team, including five years as head coach. He also led the team in the first championship in its history in 2018-2019.
Nurse had a 227-163 (.582) record while leading Canada’s only NBA team. The Iowa native was named Coach of the Year in 2020 on the Silver Tour.
For their part, the 76ers fired head coach Doc Rivers two days after their elimination against the Boston Celtics, at the end of game seven of the second round of the playoffs.
Rivers was hired on October 2, 2020 and has a 154-82 (.653) record in three seasons leading the Sixers. In the 2022-23 season, the Pennsylvania club posted a record of 54-28, finishing third in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers hadn’t racked up that many wins since the 2000–2001 season.
The Philadelphia team is on the hunt for their first championship since 1983, having already experienced the thrill of victory in 1955 and 1967.
