Nantes votes against the route of the bypass

Many citizens who were particularly against the route had gathered in the town hall. They urged elected officials to vote and take an unfavorable position on the Department of Transportation’s planned route of the bypass.

The mayor of Nantes, Daniel Gendron, did not want to oppose the route, even if he said he had been repeatedly disappointed by the project. He abstained. Only one elected official finally spoke out in favor of the route.

It’s a democratic gesture. I think the board has spoken, that’s important. The citizens asked for a referendum, which the Council did not want because it is an important investment […]. Instead we left with a vote and democracy spoke, we withdrew our support for the bypass. »

A quote from Daniel Gendron, Mayor of Nantes

However, the mayor does not believe that this decision will have a significant impact on the continuation of the project.

The minister said today the bypass would start in the autumn. It is perhaps more of a gesture that the minister himself will feel. Will this affect the Minister’s work? In my opinion, he didn’t move in vain todayShe supports the mayor.

The latter, in fact, met Transport Minister Omar Alghabra a few hours before Thursday’s extraordinary session. During his visit to the region, Minister Alghabra also closed the idea of evaluating another route.
