Major League Baseball unveiled its 2023 regular schedule on Wednesday, and for the first time in history, all teams will play each of their rivals at least once.
So that means American League clubs will face at least every National formation in a series. During the campaign, which begins March 30, teams will play 13 games against their group rivals, for a total of 52; then six games against the other competitors in their league, for a total of 64; finally a series of three encounters against each opponent in the other league, for a total of 46.
In the case of the Toronto Blue Jays, this apparently means fewer encounters with opponents from the east of the Americans. The Canadian club begins its season with a visit from the St. Louis Cardinals, who play for the national team on the first day of the calendar. His first 10 duels are played abroad, then he travels to the Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Angels.
The Jays’ first home game will be on April 11 when the Detroit Tigers play. Also, Toronto will finish the season with six home games: three against the New York Yankees and as many against the Tampa Bay Rays, who will be at the Rogers Center when the 2023 season ends on October 1.
National clubs playing in Ontario next year include the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres.
