Maude Perron is Canadian Champion

Notre-Dame-du-Portage speed skater Maude Perron won multiple medals, including gold, at the recent Eastern Canadian Championships held in Oakville, Ontario last weekend.

Maude Perron won the title of Canadian champion in the 400 meter dash. She also won silver and bronze in the women’s relay and mixed relay, while finishing third in her age group in the 1,000m and sixth in the 1,500m and 800m.

The region was also represented at this competition by Laurence Charron. The young skater also put up some very good performances that allowed her to come home with two medals, a silver medal in the mixed relay and a bronze medal in the women’s relay.

Ranked 18th at the start of the competition, she made a nice improvement by finishing 11th overall in the four races. She placed 8th in the 400 meters.

In addition, the long-track provincial championship was held in Quebec that same weekend. Yoan Perron, Maude’s brother, won a silver medal in the 500 meters and a bronze medal in the 1000 meters.

The skaters will return to competitions in two weeks time in Trois-Rivières for the final competition of the season.
