Major changes in Calgary’s transit system

It is a real paradigm shift offered to the users. Calgary route ahead aims to change the way metropolitan public transit is delivered by focusing on major lines, a practice Edmonton adopted a few years ago and is also practiced in Vancouver.

Correction: The strategic plan bears the name Calgary route aheadand not “Road Ahead” as written in an earlier version of this article.

Some of the 150 bus routes from Calgary Transit are to disappear in order to increase the frequency of bus trips on the main arteries. There will be resistancethe council admits Sonya Sharp. People are comfortable and used to some of these roads.

The change in routes also means that some users will have to walk up to 10 minutes to their bus stop instead of walking to the street corner. In turn, they can travel by bus much more easily without having to pay attention to the timetable and plan their route, as there is a bus every ten minutes, even in areas outside the city center.

There are many inequalities in public transport, believes Councilor Raj Dhaliwal, who represents residents of neighboring neighborhoods in the north-east of the city. It is fortunate that priority is given to moving people to the city center quickly. The extension of the blue line to the airport and Country Hills addresses economic and justice needs. I hope it will be done soon.

The plan Calgary route ahead is scheduled to be presented to the Calgary City Council for a vote on July 4th.
