Transparency, lightness and functionality. These are the keywords for the new terminal at Chibougamau-Chapais Airport in Quebec (Canada), in which the Saint-Gobain Glass teams have collaborated. The terminal facades are equipped with COOL-LITE® XTREME solar control glass.

A solution that allows to reduce and reduce the carbon footprint of the building by 40% thanks to the production of glazing with a high percentage of shards (about 70%) and renewable energy ultimately the energy consumption of the terminal with thermal insulation that avoids both excessive heating and air conditioning to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

In addition to the facade, the structure of this terminal is a prime example of lightweight construction. It showcases locally produced wood, particularly high-performance products such as glued laminated timber, cross-laminated timber (CLT) structural panels and wooden facades that offer outstanding energy efficiency. The waiting room is even surmounted by a roof that reveals a south-facing skylight, which also provides light and acts as a supporting axis.

Awarded the Gold Grands Prix du Design certification, the Chibougamau-Chapais airport terminal proves that aesthetics and durability can be combined.
