Kaiden Guhle with Team Canada

Canada unveiled its official lineup on Friday, selected by general manager Rick Nash and his assistants, and the Maple Leaf will focus on youth. Several of the invited players have already represented the country on the international stage, including Guhle.

The 22-year-old Albertan competed in the 2021 World Junior Championships, but it will be his first time playing with the senior national team. He didn’t steal his spot after having a good season with the Habs, scoring 22 points for a -8 margin in 70 games.

Guhle, who enjoyed a second season in the National League, won’t be Canada’s only young defenseman. Bowen Byram, Owen Power and Olen Zellweger are all 22 or younger. Veterans Colton Parayko, Damon Severson and Jamie Oleksiak will back them up.

On offense we can expect a lot of creativity and energy from Connor Bedard, Macklin Celebrini and Adam Fantilli, among others. At 32 years old, the robust Brandon Tanev is the oldest striker in the group.

St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington should be the No. 1 guy in net. His deputies will be Joel Hofer and Nico Daws.

The Ice Hockey World Championship begins on May 10th in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic. Canada begins its tournament the next day against Great Britain.
