Hockey Canada has revealed the identities of the 22 players who will represent the country at the next World Juniors on Monday. Montreal Canadiens junior Joshua Roy will be one of three Quebecers vacationing in New Brunswick.
Forward Nathan Gaucher (Quebec Remparts) and defenseman Tyson Hinds (Sherbrooke Phoenix) will be the other two representatives of La Belle Province. Zachary Bolduc, William Rousseau and Jordan Dumais were not selected.
“We believe we have assembled a group of great depth and talent that will give us the best opportunity to defend our gold medal on home soil,” Alan Millar, director of player personnel, said in a statement. The selection camp resulted in many difficult decisions and we want to congratulate our players and their families. We can’t wait to see them proudly wear the maple leaf in Halifax and Moncton.”
Riley Kidney and Owen Beck, who were the other two Habs prospects who attended selection camp, will return to their respective junior clubs.
Eight members of the gold-winning team will be back, including Roy, Gaucher and Connor Bedard.
Canada will then open the competition against the Czech Republic on December 26 in Halifax. The representatives of the Maple Leaf then have an appointment with Germany on December 28th, and then with Austria on the following day. Then you meet Sweden to complete the preliminary round on New Year’s Eve.
