According to Canadian retail giant Shopify, which provides payment solutions to businesses around the world, its customers totaled $3.36 billion (CAD$4.5 billion) in revenue on Friday, setting a new record.
That’s up 17% from 2021, or 19% in constant dollars, Shopify said. At the peak of sales, retailers were making around $3.5 million per minute around lunchtime.
The average basket hit $102.31, or about $137 CAD.
Sales were particularly strong in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, as noted by the Ottawa flagship.
Cyber Monday also promised great sales to Spotify customers. Also as of Monday night, Spotify was recording revenue of over $1.8 million per minute, while more than 56 million shoppers had transacted with a retailer using the Canadian company’s services during the day.
Shopify isn’t the only company that’s seen clear consumer enthusiasm. For its part, Adobe Analytics reported that customers in the United States alone spent $9.2 billion on online purchases of all kinds as of Friday, up 2.3%.
