Alberto Quero left his native Venezuela in 2016 in response to an invitation from Canada in search of “skilled workers” to fill the labor shortage. Seven years later, the graduate student is “ready to teach anywhere,” except that he has had no response from any institution he’s applied to since he arrived. “All I ask is to be able to work in my field to be able to contribute,” he told journalist Alain Goupil.
