In his new role, the former politician will ensure the global insurer meets growing expectations for companies to minimize their social and environmental impacts.
The ultimate goals must be maintained, but Canada Life has told me that we want to do the right things in the right ways
says Brian Bowman.
In addition to respect for sustainability and corporate social responsibility, Brian Bowman’s new mandate includes two other key aspects.
He will therefore be responsible for promoting domestic reconciliation and contributing to decolonization efforts such as those being undertaken in the United States and Europe, where the company also has a presence. He will also ensure that partnerships are built within Aboriginal communities.
I really, really liked the overall look of this post. I think the learning curve will be quite steep when it comes to the experience of some of these issues in countries like Ireland, Germany and the United States
he says.
A Canada Life official declined to comment on the hiring, instead allowing the former mayor to speak.
Brian Bowman was mayor of Winnipeg for eight years. He admits there have been many rumors about the possibility that he would seek a different political role after his term as mayor ends in 2022.
However, he explains that he is no longer interested in politics.
I was in the best political position I could imagine, as mayor
says the former politician.
His successor, Scott Gillingham, will do a good job, he believes.
Given his eight years of City Council experience, he is certainly in a good position. That’s something I honestly didn’t have when I was first elected.
claims Mr Bowman, referring to the former St James adviser.
He understands how the town hall works and the many personalities involved. So I think it will be of great help to him
he adds.
