First two-game losing streak for Bruins

The Florida Panthers showed composure, came from behind and beat the mighty Boston Bruins 4-3 in overtime on Saturday at the FLA Live Arena.

With just 48 seconds remaining in the third period, David Pastrnak had given his team a one-goal lead with his devastating wrist shot. The Bruins looked set for their 17th away win this season… but Aleksander Barkov had yet to say his last word.

The hosts’ captain forced overtime with a rebound with just three seconds left on the clock.

Sam Reinhart then played the heroes out in overtime after 17 seconds of play. His powerful one-timer rattled the strings with such speed that officials initially thought the puck hadn’t entered Jeremy Swayman’s cage.

The Bruins have lost two straight games after losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the first time this season on Thursday.

Sam Bennett and Brandon Montour also contributed to the Florida team’s war effort.

Bruce Cassidy’s team took the lead three times in the game before losing. Craig Smith and Charlie Coyle pierced Alex Lyon’s armor.

The Lightning no longer lose at home

At the Amalie Arena, the Tampa Bay Lightning extended their home winning streak to 12 with a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings, the longest such streak in Bolts history.

Brayden Point got the ball rolling for Tampa late in the first half after Nikita Kucherov spotted his teammate standing alone in the slot. It’s the 29th goal in 48 games for the Lightning third-round pick of 2015.

Two former Montreal Canadiens 2020-2021 color bearers also stood out by scoring in the game, Corey Perry for the Lightning and Phillip Danault for the Kings.

With just four goals this season, Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman has blacked out the top scorer for the second game in a row.

Pierre-Édouard Bellemare and Ross Colton also threaded the needle for the hosts, while Jaret Anderson-Dolan flashed the red light for the Kings.

Jon Cooper’s men will return to action against their Florida rivals, the Panthers, on Monday at Sunrise’s FLA Live Arena.

Carter Hart shines in Flyers win

In Winnipeg, Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart was the big hero in a 4-0 win over the Jets.

The Sherwood Park, Alta. native frustrated the Manitoba representatives 40 times during the game. He leaves Winnipeg with his first shutout of the season.

Forwards Noah Cates and Owen Tippett each had a goal and an assist in the game. Kiefer Bellows and Tony DeAngelo also defeated Connor Hellebuyck.

The Jets recorded a third loss in a row. They are still second in the middle class.

As for the Flyers, they’re clinching a first win in three games. John Tortorella’s men are the penultimate rung of the metropolitan section.

A five point game for Logan Couture

It’s unclear if Logan Couture holds a grudge against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but he appeared on a mission Saturday at PPG Paints Arena. He had five points in a 6-4 win over the San Jose Sharks.

After making accomplices in Michael Eyssimont, Noah Gregor and Alexander Barabanov, Couture took matters into her own hands by the end of the meeting. With 4 min 25s. To run on the clock, he broke the deadlock by jumping onto his own disc throw.

The Guelph native capped his night’s work by shaking the ropes from an abandoned cage. At age 33, he had his first career five-point game.

Mike Sullivan’s men will look to avoid a third straight loss when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.

For their part, the Sharks ended a downward slide of four losses. They will continue their journey east to Florida where they face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday and the Panthers on Thursday.
