Oceans: Claire Nouvian, fierce defender of the Big Blue

How can a lasting pact be made between humans and the ocean? The environmental activist Claire Nouvian tries to answer this question resolutely. For years, it has defended deep-sea species against surface threats, such as industrial fishing that ravages the seabed. In particular, his struggles made it possible to ban trawling in deep waters in France and then at European level. In January, Claire Nouvian, at the head of her NGO Bloom, published the second part of her investigation into tuna fishing in African waters, which is being exploited by powerful lobbies. In the face of political inaction, the hyperactive activist has already warned: her fight to protect the oceans and their precious biodiversity is far from over.

Battle for green technologies: is this the end of globalization?

“We Europeans have a plan”. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen criticized the United States and China for “aggressive attempts” and “unfair practices” aimed at suddenly persuading green industries to grant subsidies. She also expressed concern about the IRA, that climate investment plan that provides big help to US-based companies. If European industrialists leave the old continent, what would that mean? Will deglobalization kill our economies?

Should we be afraid of the new Russian offensive?

“Tyranny moves faster than democracies,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling for “speed” in Western decision-making. At the initiative of the United States, a key meeting to coordinate military assistance to Ukraine’s allied countries will be held this Friday in Ramstein, Germany. While a Russian offensive is being prepared, Kyiv demands western tanks. Pressure is growing especially on Germany to authorize the supply of Leopard tanks. Is it time to shift up a gear for Ukraine’s allies?

A new McKinsey scandal is echoing…this time in Canada! A Radio-Canada investigation reveals that Justin Trudeau’s administration funded the multinational 10 times more than its predecessor. This new case once again questions the influence of the international firm. Gaël Legras tells us about it.

Without forgetting the very interesting question by David Castello-Lopes, the column by Alix Van Pée and a review of the highlight of the week.

28 minutes is the current ARTE magazine, moderated by Elisabeth Quin from Monday to Friday at 8:05 p.m. Renaud Dély directs the show on Saturdays. This podcast is co-produced by KM and ARTE Radio.
