Canadiens hockey | Canadiens 2 Sabers 2 (overtime) – 98.5 Montreal

Cayden Primeau and the Montreal Canadiens (11-12-3, 25 points) visit the Buffalo Sabers (11-14-2, 24 points) on Saturday evening.

First period

The Canadians put in a strong performance and created a few chances in the first few minutes of the game. Sabers goalie Devon Levi had to shine in front of Cole Caufield and Sean Monahan. He stopped 7 shots.

Cayden Primeau, however, was the busiest. He was also brilliant in the first third, stopping a total of 17 shots. His best save came at the expense of Kyle Okposo. The goalie pulled out his pad while the tall forward, who was close to the net, had just accepted a clever pass during a Sabers power play.

The Canadians were undisciplined and played with enthusiasm towards the end of the first third, so that the Sabers were able to benefit from a 5-on-3 for around forty seconds. Luckily for Montreal, the Sabers couldn’t score.

Second period

The Canadiens announced shortly before the start of the second period that Tanner Pearson’s night was over due to an upper-body injury.

A scuffle broke out midway through the second period when Sabers forward Eric Robinson hit Justin Barron from behind the Primeau net. The Canadiens defenseman fell headfirst onto the boards and took several seconds to get back up.

Robinson received a major penalty and a game misconduct penalty for recording the scene. Kaiden Guhle, defending Barron, received a minor penalty for affray.

At 4-on-4, defenseman Jayden Struble went on the attack and took advantage of the opportunity to score the first-ever goal of his career, redirecting a pass shot from Johnathan Kovacevic. 1-0 Canadians.
