Canada Ice Hockey | The board of directors is elected

Hockey Canada announced its slate of candidates Monday to fill the nine vacancies on the board for one-year terms.

Organization members will vote Saturday on whether to accept or reject the entire list, which includes five women and four men.

Hockey Canada’s board of directors resigned en masse in October after its disastrous handling of sexual assault allegations against former members of two junior national teams.

Hugh L. Fraser, a retired judge with nearly three decades of Ontario court experience, was appointed chairman of the council.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Mr. Fraser has been an arbitrator on the Court of Arbitration for Sport since 1995 and was a member of the first ad hoc tribunal at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Cassie Campbell-Pascall, who competed at the Olympic Games three times and led Canada’s women’s team to gold medals in 2002 and 2006, is one of eight appointed board members.

The others are: Quebecers Jonathan F. Goldbloom and Julie Duranceau, and Grant Borbridge, Dave Evans, Marni Fullerton, Marian Jacko and Andrea Poole.

“We are grateful to the 550 candidates who applied to lead change at Hockey Canada,” said Michael Bruni, chair of the nominating committee. The candidates we propose represent the very best in Canadian society: they bring together the knowledge and experience necessary to create a new era of hockey focused on governance and cultural development. »

The council will serve a one-year term on the recommendation of former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Cromwell.

Hockey Canada adds, “If elected by the members of Hockey Canada, the board will be accountable and transparent, ensuring Hockey Canada is an organization of which Canadians can be proud. It is expected that one of the Board’s first priorities will be to begin the search for a new CEO who will lead the organization and focus on building trust, leadership and accountability. »

More details to come.
