The creation of a new healthcare structure will allow Minister Christian Dubé to relieve himself of responsibility.
At least, that’s what Liberals expect at a pre-session gathering this week in Lac-Beauport, north of Quebec.
They do not welcome the idea of a bill to create Santé Québec, a body separate from the ministry that would be responsible for coordinating the network’s activities.
Mr Dubé argued in an interview with Le Devoir that such an agency would prevent tragedies like that of Andrée Simard.
The widow of former Prime Minister Robert Bourassa was deprived of palliative care for three days before her death.
According to liberal health critic André Fortin, it’s “incredibly cynical” to claim that if there were “an agency CEO,” these situations wouldn’t happen again.
“A civil service solution that relieves the minister”he denounced in a crowd on Wednesday.
“I can’t believe the healthcare solution right now is to put another box in the Department of Health’s organizational chart. The solution is to hire more people.he added.
