British Columbia will soon have a Department of Housing

The real estate crisis deserves the attention of an entire department and its associated resources.emphasizes Prime Minister David Eby.

The aim is to have a ministry to deal with the province’s housing crisis, while currently Minister for Housing Murray Rankin also heads the ministry for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.

A welcome announcement

Having done this in addition to two other missions, I’m excited for today’s announcementsays Murray Rankin. I find it remarkable that the new Prime Minister, like all of us, has recognized the existence of a housing crisis by prioritizing it and creating a new standalone ministry.

Who will become Housing Secretary will be named when Prime Minister Eby announces the composition of his cabinet on 7 December 2022.

On Monday, the province announced two bills. The first wants to work with municipalities to build more homes, and the second wants to change the condominium law, which, for example, prevents people with children from renting properties.
