A spectacular comeback for the Hurricanes, started by Jesperi Kotkaniemi

The Carolina Hurricanes definitely wanted to forget their humiliating 8-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, and that’s exactly what they did when they beat the Blue Columbus Jackets 3-2 on Sunday night at PNC Arena.

Striker Andrei Svechnikov chose the right moment to score his first goal of the season, giving his team the win on a two-on-one run with Sebastian Aho with 1:55 left on the clock.

However, this victory was not without difficulties. In fact, the Columbus Blue Jackets scored two unanswered goals early in the third period. As an accomplice in Kirill Marchenko’s opening goal, Johnny Gaudreau sent the red light just over six minutes later with a win over goalkeeper Pyotr Kochetkov.

The former Calgary Flames got lucky when the puck bounced off defenseman Brady Skjei’s back before finding its way into the Russian goalie’s net.

However, the latter redeemed himself by scoring the equalizer with 3:09 left in the final period.

The Hurricanes’ first reaction came from former Montreal Canadiens Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Alone in the slot, the center player took advantage of a pass from his compatriot Teuvo Taravainen. He had all the time in the world to unleash his wrist thrust and move the strings.

The 23-year-old is set to have the best season of his career as he has already scored seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 20 games.

The Hurricanes face the Flyers on Tuesday in Philadelphia. The Blue Jackets host the strong Boston Bruins on Monday.
