The Centaur Theater unveiled its 2023-2024 program Thursday night entitled “Building the future at Centaur.”
Indeed, the next season will be one of transformation and rebuilding to revitalize this old Montreal theater on new foundations, both literally and figuratively. Because the Anglo-Montreal company will initiate a first phase of the renovation of its historic building. Work will start this summer.
“The refurbishment of our main auditorium (Centaur 2) will be a major shift for us as we will not only increase the creative capacity of our theater but also renew our commitment to making Centaur a place where the finest theatrical productions are welcome in Montreal,” said artistic director Eda Holmes in a press release.
“Our ever-changing world is changing fast. I will ensure that the centaur continues to showcase a variety of voices on stage in all their uniqueness. »
The season will open on October 17 with the English production of the play alternatives, directed by Xavier Huard and written by author Drew Hayden Taylor. An irreverent comedy from one of Canada’s greatest Aboriginal playwrights, known as the “Native Neil Simon”.
“Drew Hayden Taylor brings his legendary wit and cultural perspective to this tongue-in-cheek look at contemporary social dynamics,” summarizes the press release from Menuentakuan, the company producing the play.
During Centaur 2’s work, the shows will be shown in Room 1. To find out about the titles of the other productions and activities for the 2023-24 season, you can consult the Centaur website.
