A defeat that smiles at the Jays

The Orioles failed to win their series against the Oakland Athletics in Baltimore on Sunday, much to the delight of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 5-0 loss put the Orioles 2.5 games behind the only Canadian team in Major League Baseball to finish bottom of the draft.

Adrian Martinez (4-3) took care of Team Maryland’s sluggers, allowing just three hits and two free passes in six innings on the mound. The three successors who succeeded him each allowed an opponent to reach the trails without scoring a point.

Seth Brown had inspired hitting play on the side of the “A”. He hit three hits — including two solo homers — on four occasions.

Sheldon Neuse and Shea Langerliers completed the score with a prolific single each.

A great start missed

At Great American Ball Park, the Cincinnati Reds collapsed late in the game after a superb performance from gunner Nick Lodolo, and the Colorado Rockies prevailed 8-4.

Before handing over the hill to Joey Kuhnel (2:3), Lodolo had silenced the guests. He had recorded nine strikeouts in six innings and allowed only two hits.

However, on his departure, the Rockies scored four runs in an inning before Kuhnel hit a single out.

At the end of the duel, CJ Cron hit his team’s comeback with his 25th long ball of the season.

German Marquez (8-10) added a deserved win to his tally by allowing just three hits and two runs in seven innings.
